This morning, during my Scripture reading, I came across a beautiful truth: God delights in us. Not just tolerates, not just observes from a distance—He sings over us with joy. That truth alone was already filling my heart, but I wanted more. In my journal, I specifically asked Jesus to show me more affection, more proof that He is thinking of me.
Then, later in the day, I picked up The Shack and read the words, “[God] smiled in delight.” I nearly dropped the book. It was as if Jesus Himself whispered, “See? I heard you.”
That moment wasn’t random. It wasn’t just a nice thought or a coincidence. It was God answering my prayer in the gentlest, most personal way possible. I asked Him for a reminder of His affection, and He gave it to me through both Scripture and a book I was already reading.
I think we sometimes expect God’s voice to come in huge, unmistakable ways, but often, He shows up in the small details—the moments that make us pause, the words that feel too perfect to be chance, the sense of peace that settles over us at just the right time. He weaves together little pieces of love in a way only He can, just to let us know He is near.
This moment reminded me that God delights in me—not because I’ve done anything to earn it, but simply because I am His. And He delights in you the same way. If you’re ever wondering whether God is thinking of you, ask Him to show you. He just might answer in a way that makes you nearly drop your book too.
