From a Whisper to a Song: Following God’s Gentle Nudges

Lately, something unexpected has been stirring in my heart: the guitar. It has been years since I’ve seriously thought about playing again, but over the past few weeks, this quiet urge has been growing stronger. At first, I brushed it off as just a passing thought—but as the feeling persisted, I began to wonder if it was more than just me.

You see, I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in a God who whispers, nudges, and opens doors in the smallest details of our lives.

It started when I randomly checked the website for our local art center to see if their spring schedule was available yet. Nothing. The very next day, without much reason, I felt the urge to check again, even though I had just looked. This time, there it was—guitar lessons for beginners, starting soon. I even remembered that I’d called them earlier, and no one answered, leaving me with a sense of waiting.

But God doesn’t work on our schedules; He works on His.

In that moment, I felt a deep sense of this isn’t random. Why would I look again when I’d just checked the night before? Why has the idea of the guitar been lingering in my thoughts? I believe it’s the Holy Spirit, gently guiding me back to something that once brought me joy, peace, and creativity.

What makes this adventure even sweeter is the way God has smoothed out the details. The art center’s classes are affordable, and the local music store offers rentals—removing the financial hurdles I had been wrestling with. Even my daughter’s dad agreed to adjust his call schedule so I could make this commitment. Piece by piece, God is laying the foundation, saying, “It’s time.”

I share this because maybe you, too, have been sensing a nudge toward something old or something new—something that seems small but keeps tugging at you. Maybe it’s a dream you shelved long ago or a quiet whisper inviting you into creativity, healing, or joy.

If so, I encourage you to listen closely. Sometimes God plants seeds of inspiration before we even know what He’s growing.

For me, picking up the guitar again is more than just learning chords or melodies—it’s about embracing the peace and freedom God has been cultivating in my life. It’s about saying yes to His gentle invitations, even when they show up in simple things like a beginner guitar class on a random Tuesday morning.

And I’m so ready to say yes.
